The Challenge:

Desktop studies reveal strong prospectivity for gold in the Tian Shan orogenic belt of Central Asia. But, most nations covering this terrain are difficult jurisdictionally, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The Altai Mountains of SW Mongolia are are a more-workable area, but extremely remote, unpopulated, and under-studied, making targeting and field confirmation time-consuming, expensive and difficult logistically.

The Solution:

Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) satellite imagery was used to survey a large (>10,000 sq km) area of the Mongolian Altai selected as prospective based on a Desktop Study of research findings, geological mapping, satellite geophysics, and structural analysis.


LWIR analysis revealed a discrete quartz-pyrite anomaly in the southeast portion of the study area. Detailed analysis of this area further defined discrete targets with lead carbonate (cerrusite) and sericite signatures, similar to other orogenic gold deposits known globally.


A one-week Field Confirmation Program discovered a swarm of gold-bearing quartz veins, with individual veins up to two meters in width. The target was deemed potentially economically viable and flagged for a full field program to further delineate mineralization ahead of license acquisition.
